Engineering Skills, Applied
The College of Technical Engineering at Al-Farabi University trains engineers for the applied end of the profession — the roles where equipment has to be built, calibrated, operated and kept running.
Our five departments span medical instrumentation, electrical power, computer systems, exploration and well drilling, and cybersecurity. Each pairs engineering fundamentals with laboratory and field practice, so graduates arrive at work already familiar with the instruments and methods their sector uses.
All programmes are delivered under the accreditation framework of the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

Dean's Message
Welcome to the College of Technical Engineering at Al-Farabi University. Technical engineering is a discipline defined by contact with the real thing — the instrument on the ward, the switchgear in the substation, the rig on the well, the network carrying an institution’s records. Our purpose is to prepare engineers who can work on all of it competently and responsibly.
That purpose shapes how the college is organised. Our five departments — medical instrumentation, electrical engineering, computer techniques, exploration and well drilling, and cybersecurity — were chosen because they map onto the sectors where Iraq most needs qualified technical people. Each programme is built around laboratory and field practice rather than treating it as an addition to theory.
We are equally committed to the second half of our mission: applied research that serves industry and society, and genuine partnerships with the technology, energy and health sectors. Research here is expected to connect to problems that exist outside the university, and our partnerships exist so that students meet those problems before they graduate.
To prospective students, I would say this: the path is demanding, and we intend it to be. In return you will graduate as an engineer who can be handed real responsibility. I invite you to explore our departments, meet our academic staff, and consider joining a college whose work is measured by what its graduates can actually do.
