Given the weight of the oil and gas sector in Iraq's economy, the programme is built around field practice — rig systems, drilling fluids, well control and the equipment used on site — alongside the geology and engineering that inform the decisions.

A Message from the Head of Department
Drilling is an operation where planning, judgement and discipline meet directly. Decisions made on a rig carry consequences for safety, for cost and for the environment, and training has to reflect that seriousness.
Our programme follows the real sequence of the work — exploration and formation evaluation, well planning, the drilling operation, then completion — with emphasis on the systems and the control practice that govern each stage.
Given the weight of the oil and gas sector in Iraq's economy, this department has a clear purpose: to supply it with people who are properly prepared.
